Welcome to Staycity’s consultation website on our proposals for a new, modern and sustainable hotel on Great Eastern Road, Stratford.

Proposed northwest ground floor activation from Great Eastern Road

Have your say

Staycity is pleased to present proposals for a new, modern and sustainable hotel in Stratford. The proposals are to bring an undeveloped, brownfield site into use, providing local jobs and contributing positively to the local economy.
Alongside a hotel, we are proposing a publicly accessible café or food and beverage offering, helping to create a better sense of place on Great Eastern Road.
Read on to find out more about our proposals and how you can get involved in our public consultation.

Why a hotel?

Since the London 2012 Olympics, Stratford has become a key destination in London. The area around Great Eastern Road boasts attractions such as Westfield Shopping Centre, the London Stadium, and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, alongside excellent transport links into central London. The site is also close to Stratford’s town centre, home to the Stratford Centre and the iconic Old Town Hall.
Every year, millions of visitors from across the country and the world come to Stratford, highlighting the clear demand for new hotels and the area’s significant contribution to the UK’s economy.

That said, the ‘aparthotel-style’ model of our proposed hotel will cater for a range of stays from overnight visitors to Stratford to longer-stay visitors, such as business, education or cultural focused-travellers, and will be less dependent on tourists. Extended stay customers are also more likely to invest in the local economy by spending locally.

The development will sensitively respond to the local area, providing a welcoming space for hotel users and local people and providing a new asset to this part of Stratford.

We will be engaging with local groups, such as sports clubs, to identify opportunities to work with each other and ensure that local people can benefit from the proposals.

The site

The proposed site is located on Great Eastern Road, adjacent to two major consented schemes – a Unite Students scheme to the west (currently under construction) and Legacy Tower to the east. Our proposals will therefore be part of a discernible cluster, and will be designed to fit within this context, further supporting the overall regeneration of the wider Stratford area.
The site is an undeveloped brownfield land, and the proposals will bring the space into productive use, helping to bring much-needed economic activity to the area.
The site is directly adjacent to major public transport links, including national and international rail services and will therefore be well supported by local infrastructure. We expect the vast majority of users to arrive and depart by public transport.

Sustainability

Staycity upholds ambitious sustainability principles across all its hotels. The Staycity Stratford scheme will be designed to set a new standard for sustainable tourism.
Following consultation with sustainability consultant Ramboll, the design has been optimised to minimise material use and embodied carbon.
By not including a basement in the design, and moving power systems to the roof, we will save significant quantities of concrete and excavation.
In its current design, the development will achieve a BREEAM rating, an industry measure of a building’s sustainability credentials, of ‘Excellent’ and we are targeting ‘Outstanding’.
